ʻĪao Valley State Monument on Maui is temporarily closed from April 27 to June 26, 2026, while crews carry out important repairs and upgrades. The main work involves strengthening and improving the pedestrian bridge over ʻĪao Stream, along with other maintenance to make the area safer for visitors. These improvements follow recent storms that caused flooding, erosion, and damage throughout the valley, which is known for its heavy rainfall and high visitor traffic. Closing the park allows the work to be done safely while also helping to care for and protect the valley’s natural environment and cultural significance. ʻĪao Valley is a deeply important place in Hawaiian history, home to the famous ʻĪao Needle and the site of the Battle of Kepaniwai, so these efforts are also about preserving it for future generations. The park is expected to reopen in late June 2026 with safer and more durable features in place.
Please note that this does affect our Maui Coastline and Cultural Highlights Tour.
