Lahaina Wildfire Debris Relocation and Travel Advisory

Beginning in June 2025, an estimated 400,000 tons of nonhazardous material left behind by the 2023 Lahaina wildfire will be relocated from the Temporary Debris Storage (TDS) site in Olowalu to a Permanent Disposal Site (PDS) located in Central Maui.

This debris transfer is a vital part of Maui’s ongoing recovery efforts and is being carried out through a collaborative partnership between the County of Maui, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the Hawaiʻi State Departments of Health and Transportation. The operation will involve as many as 50 trucks, each making up to four round trips per day. Hauling will occur during daylight hours, every day of the week, and is expected to take around five months to complete. Please note that plans may evolve as the work progresses.

This activity may impact travel times between pickup and drop-off locations, particularly if you are staying on the west side of Maui. We strongly encourage guests not to schedule any activities immediately following their Road to Hāna tour, as we cannot guarantee exact return times due to possible traffic delays.
